Slow Video Playback

Hello. I have the 2GB ROC-RK3328-CC board and I recently installed the Ubuntu image that was provided onto an SD card and was trying a simple video playback test using vlc and an .mp4 video file but the playback was horribly lagging and dropping frames. Given that this board is supposed to be more powerful than a raspberry pi I am guessing I am doing something wrong but this test seemed so simple that I can't think of what that might be.

I also tried installing Kodi but that was laggy as well even when trying to navigate through the menus...

Has anyone else tried to use this board as a media center or have any ideas why the videos/kodi would be so laggy?

The hardware decoding is probably missing for the moment.
You need to wait a little for decoder support

I just tried vlc. Couldn't even play ah HD video. It is a bit disappointing to buy a board for its hardware acceleration capabilities to find that they haven't been finished yet... Does anyone know how to determine what support is detected and is being used?

Android and LibreELEC will decode properly. Ubuntu does not feature hardware decoding yet. Every OS has a different decoding pipeline that needs to be implemented. It's like Windows and Linux. Just because it works on Windows does not mean it works on Linux and vice versa.

Is there any timeline or plan to bring hardware decoding to linux? What about hardware encoding? Is that available on any platforms yet?

@hackish for video for now android from firefly works for video
and kodi I tried 4K and 4K HDR files , LibreELEC from firefly only
see's 1/2 the memory and lock's up at times when video end's

@jeepthing yes, decoding, have you tried hardware accelerated encoding of video on android?

I ran PCmark work 2.0 which does video editing photo editing web page searching etc
it gave a score but didn't know what to compare it too

Device: Libre Renegade ("ROC-RK3328-CC").
Flashed with Firefly Android as well as Station OS Build #10

The Good:
1. Video acceleration available for 2160p. Super smooth rendering!

Two issues that are affecting usability (on both OSes):
1. HDMI-CEC feature not available - The ROC-RK3328-CC is connected to Amplifier using HDMI cable. Unable to control Android/Station OS using TV remote (other connected devices can be controlled by TV remote). Have to connect Mouse to navigate!

2. Audio Passthrough setting not available in RKMC (Kodi-clone) - Enabled Settings -> Sound -> HDMI Bitstream on Station OS (found no such setting on Android 7.1). RKMC still does not give Audio Passthrough feature. Resulting audio output is really weak with hardly any output from Subwoofer or surrounds.

Audio being ʾweakʾ doesn't make sense.  It's digital.  You won't get any output from the subwoofer or surrounds on a stereo output.  It only supports stereo, but that doesn't make it ʾweakʾ.  Emulating surround via the reciever's DSP isn't a good option in most cases.  KODI does have a few options that can affect audio quality.  Try them.

Music will normally be stereo.  Movies would benefit from surround, but I'm not having any luck either.  Yes, CEC would be nice.

Hello guys, does anybody here know how to make the bass louder on a subwoofer? Because I had some problems with sound on my last subwoofer and I changed it and now on this new one I don't know how it works. I spend a lot of money on changing this stuff but it seems that wasn't necessary because one of my friends that is very good at it said that the problem wasn't in the subwoofer but in cable but it was too late. So now I decided to buy a more qualitative one to never repeat this problem and I found a site with very good subwoofer cable reviews and I bought one that I saw there and the sound is great but I don't know from where to make the bass louder.
